This paper is concerned with material properties of PBX(polymer bonded explosives) simulant at various strain rates ranging from 10-4/sec to 102/sec. Material properties of PBX at the high strain rate are important in prediction of deformation modes of PBX in a warhead which undergoes severe dynamic loading. Inert PBX stimulant which has analogous mechanical properties with PBX was utilized for material tests due to safety issues. Uniaxial tensile tests at the quasi-static strain rate were conducted at strain rates ranging from 10-4/sec to 10-2/sec using a tensile testing machine, INTRON 5583. Uniaxial tensile tests at the intermediate strain rate were conducted at strain rates ranging from 10-1/sec to 102/sec using a high-speed material testing machine developed. Deformation behaviors were investigated using captured images obtained from a high-speed camera. Material properties acquired from uniaxial tensile tests were verified by finite element analysis.
