An improved device for the tension/compression test of sheet metals at intermediate strain rates with a hydraulic material testing machine. The device is designed to measure reliable load data without fluctuation of the load according to the fundamental mode of the device at intermediate strain rates. Tension and compression tests are performed for TRIP980 and TWIP980 steel sheets at various strain rates ranging from 0.001 s−1 to 100 s−1. From the test results, rate dependent hardening behaviors are observed under compression as well as tension.
