Compressive behavior of a simulant for PBX(Polymer Bonded Explosives) was investigated with wide range of strain rate. The simulant was manufactured to substitute PBX in the mechanical experiments. Energetic materials in PBX were eliminated and other inert particles filled the simulant. The compressive response of the simulant for PBX was characterized at high strain rates over 103/s using a SHPB(Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar) apparatus. In the SHPB apparatus, Mg-alloy was used for striker and pressure bars considering low impedance of the simulant. Deformation behavior of the specimen was observed using captured images with grid on the specimen surface. The images were obtained from a high-speed camera. Uniaxial compression tests at low strain rates ranging from 10-4/s to 10-2/s were also conducted with INSTRON material testing machine. Compressive stress-strain relations at various strain rates were obtained and compared with the results from tensile tests of the simulant.
